I guess in all reality I should admit that I am getting older. And yes, yes before I hear the backlash, I know that I am not old, but I’ve noticed that learning methods and things I used to do in school are not done (or are done minimally) anymore. Now, I know that I was spoiled because we could and did use the internet for research, but I do remember the card catalogue days! But I know that my students today rarely use a textbook and do most (if not all) their work on a computer and submit assignments over the internet.
I am glad that I didn’t have to do this when I was in school. I know I would have struggled with doing everything on the computer. Given the opportunity, I would choose to write something down before I type it. And I am one of those ‘old-fashioned’ people who still has a daily agenda and doesn’t program my schedule into my phone. But the great thing about all the computers and the internet is we are so easily connected! Especially during this time of year, when everyone is cramming for exams, the computer makes even tutoring convenient!
So, we’re offering Skype tutoring sessions for all subjects for $35.00 p/hr. Now until May 20 you can book 3 sessions at a 10% discount!
It will save you a lot of time and some green and we all can use a little of that!

Thankfully we made it back safe and sound from a very quick trip up north. The drive was long, but very beautiful as all the leaves are changing and the air has that fall freshness. What I loved the most was watching the landscape gradually change, from evergreens to corn fields, grassy hills, and finally back to the familiar. Although I have to say, one week makes a big difference and I can definitely see fall here in the South. The temperatures are cooling down and everything is covered with a fresh dusting of leaves (that are nowhere near as colorful as those up north).
Coming back after being away and getting back into ‘the swing of things’ always seems like such a difficult thing to do, until it’s done. This is especially difficult since I had to say such a quick “hello” and “goodbye” to both my parents (particularly my Mom). But we are all excited for the upcoming holidays and more opportunities to spend time with each other. So, with renewed excitement I am happy to return to helping you all again!
Ahora empezamos de nuevo…
It’s official, summer is finally here! And for us, here in Atlanta today wasn’t much different from the previous few days. It was hot, but not super humid (yet), and sunny. I know that my family up north had a hot one today, 93 degrees! So far it’s been a summer of pleasant surprises. We’ve welcomed new students of all ages and levels, and we’ve added our new language (and lovely tutor) Mandarin. It’s been so exciting and we’re so looking forward to the upcoming school year!
But I suppose we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves. In the midst of all these goings-on, I’m super excited to head north for a cousin’s impending nuptials!! I can’t wait to see the family, congratulate the bride and groom, and spend some quality time with my dad. I’m thankful to have such a wonderful family and am looking forward to visiting, relaxing, revitalizing, and coming home with more excitement for the rest of the summer and into the school year!
As always, let us know if you need us for Spanish, English, or Mandarin lessons! Any age, any level! And we look forward to hearing from you soon!
¡Chau Chau amigos!

Yes, I know Valentine’s Day has come and gone. But it has left me with some beautiful red roses and some thoughts. Usually I rant about Valentine’s Day being an over-commercialized Hallmark holiday (which I still believe) but yesterday I had a little revelation. Valentine’s Day is a day to be thankful. Regardless if you are in a relationship or single, you should be thankful for the people in your life. The simple phone calls I received yesterday from my parents saying “Happy Valentine’s Day, I love you,” made me so thankful for their love and presence in my life.
And the truth is I didn’t need them to call yesterday and say that….I know they love me everyday and I love them. But it got me thinking… I am so thankful for my students, for my job, and for having the opportunity to do what I love everyday…helping others. So, thank you St. Valentine for helping me be aware of the blessings in my life.

luck is in small things(42/365)
The answer is no, I don’t believe in luck ‘exactly’. I believe the quote that best describes it is:
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
I believe that we all create our own destiny–we make choices, some great, some good, some bad and they lead us in a particular direction. But providence has a big hand in that as well. I say, be prepared for anything, we’re all going to fall down and scrape our knees at one time or another, but be ready to get back up and learn to take advantage of great opportunities, they don’t come around very often.
