That ‘new-fangled’ internet

exam-preparation I guess in all reality I should admit that I am getting older. And yes, yes before I hear the backlash, I know that I am not old, but I’ve noticed that learning methods and things I used to do in school are not done (or are done minimally) anymore. Now, I know that I was spoiled because we could and did use the internet for research, but I do remember the card catalogue days! But I know that my students today rarely use a textbook and do most (if not all) their work on a computer and submit assignments over the internet.

I am glad that I didn’t have to do this when I was in school. I know I would have struggled with doing everything on the computer. Given the opportunity, I would choose to write something down before I type it. And I am one of those ‘old-fashioned’ people who still has a daily agenda and doesn’t program my schedule into my phone. But the great thing about all the computers and the internet is we are so easily connected! Especially during this time of year, when everyone is cramming for exams, the computer makes even tutoring convenient!

So, we’re offering Skype tutoring sessions for all subjects for $35.00 p/hr. Now until May 20 you can book 3 sessions at a 10% discount!

It will save you a lot of time and some green and we all can use a little of that!

The Elf and the Doctor

elf2doctor1

There once was a little Elf. He was so silly, always running around from place to place. When people asked him, where he lived he always replied, “Everywhere!” To which they would inquire, “Now, where is that located??” One moment he’d be happy, the next he’d be sad–he was an emotional little fellow. He scared easily, laughed easily, cried easily, and was never afraid to express his feelings. He always made sure if he made changes they were temporary.

One day he met the Doctor. The Doctor wasn’t like him at all. He was always described as “tall, dark, and handsome”–great characteristics in a man! He had a great occupation (you know, being a doctor), rarely left his place of origin, which of course was somewhere in New England. Unlike the Elf, the Doctor was always on time and attended church regularly, his religion was very important to him. And if he did change something in his routine he changed it permanently.

la letra ‘j’

reloj

¡Hola todos!

Today I want to talk about the letter: J en español (hota)

This special letter is pronounced like the Engilsh H…por ejemplo…

jo- is ‘ho’

ja- is ‘ha’

je- is ‘he(y)’

jalapeños are ‘ha-la-pen-yos’…not ‘jall-a-penos’

so, what about this one:

Gracias a mi familia, mis amigos y mis clientes

Lately I’ve been running around like a crazy person.  I guess sometimes that happens.  You know, when you feel like you’re balancing 100 things at once and there’s not quite enough time in the day.  Or when you on your way to an appointment in rush-hour traffic and there’s nothing you can do about it.  Yep, those kind of things definitely happen.  And boy am I thankful for the people who understand that sometimes things are just out of your control.

And I’m very happy to announce that we’re adding some new ‘thing-balancers’, helpers, hard-workers, and all around great new tutors!  Kim Sanchez (whose bio you can find on the “Spanish” tab) is observing some sessions this week and will be joining to help out with our Spanish clients soon!  Mai Silvius (her bio is under the “German” tab) is willing and ready to take on some new German students.  And Jingya Zhang (our Mandarin tutor) is now available through Skype.  And for those of you who were wondering, we’re all available through Skype for online sessions so we can help you no matter where you are!

In addition to our great new tutors we are also adding Note-taking, Study-Skills, and Time-Management Classes to help all you “100-things-at-once” balancers out there!  You never know, but sometimes it helps to just sit down and get an outside perspective! I know sometimes we all feel like were running at 80 mph with an empty tank, but there are people out there who love, support and understand you.  And sometimes all we need is a little acknowledgement and a ‘thank you.’  So, I want to say, ‘thank you’ to all of you out there.  Thanks for your support and business.  And all you blog followers, thanks for reading the musings of this native SC girl, living and working in the big-city, growing her business one step at a time!

I wanted to share with you the thanks and appreciation I’ve received in the past couple weeks and I want to thank those people in return.  First of all, thank you to my wonderful fiancé for my “Welcome Home” sign after my trip up North and back.  And thank you from the bottom of my heart to a former student who took time out of his busy day to write to me.  That meant more than you know!

 Thank You Letter

¡Gracias a todos y que tengan una buena semana!

Cosas nuevas…

Many new things are happening here at the S.T.A.T. Project!  We are so excited to have recently added German and are looking to add other languages soon!  And we now have some awesome gift certificates available so you can give the gift of language for the upcoming holidays (or any day!).  Finally, we will soon be welcoming a new tutor to the ranks in the next few weeks and we can’t be more pleased and excited!  We hope all of you out there have a wonderful week….and don’t forget it you’re a seasoned politico or not, the last presidential debate is tonight!

Chau all, will share some more exciting news soon!

el otoño

Fall is almost here!  As the all-knowing Google tells me, the Autumnal Equinox is this Saturday, September 22.  However, when I was talking to my mom the other day on the phone she relayed the same information….”Megan, Saturday is the first day of Autumn.”  But what I heard was, “Saturday is the first day of Awesome.”  And I replied, “I like that, how long is Awesome?”  Anyway, that made for an interesting conversation.  But I’d have to say that so far, Autumn is pretty Awesome!  Coming from a die-hard Summer Girl that says something.

Right now, here in the South it’s still warm (about 80 degrees during the day) and there’s just the slightest chill in the morning.  And the air smells great!  Yes, I’m aware that sounds strange, but it’s the same way in Spring….then it’s reviving and creating new life….now it’s refreshing after the heat of summer.  Anyway….I hope that whenever you are you are enjoying the beginning of Autumn!  And just as a ‘refreshing’ reminder…we’re here if and when you need us!

¡Chau Chau!
